Ice Ages and the new Frostbite Falls

The sun is shining... no birds are singing. But, honestly? Any bird in her right mind would have flapped those mighty wings down to Florida long before now.

A fine, fine reason to complain about those Florida folks.. :)
I know I would have flown south ~ iffen I had free wings to do so. Every day I check flights to a kinder climate.

'Cause I'll take this view:

Over this view, any day.

Geez Louise it's been bitterly cold around these parts. Which I can wholeheartedly attest to. Seeing as how I waited until it was 5 below zero to decorate my big boy spruce tree. (I didn't know it was that cold out there until my hands went numb.)

The wee baby spruce was the first tree I planted when we bought this house... he's finally reached a size where I felt he should strut his Christmas-y stuff.

But, like I said... the sun is shining. The weather IS warming.

The fragrance of delicate Paperwhites adds to the lightness of the air. Feels as if we're all thawing out after a long winter's rest.

So whaddya do when you're housebound? Why you bake, of course.

Dozens upon dozens of delectable goodies.

I survived this marathon bread and cookie baking. Barely. How do chefs do that? Focusing on the fact that these are gifts and therefore we should not be taking a nibble out of each and every one of them.

I personally think taste tasting is a critical component of this chore.

Stay warm, my friends.

I'd be happy to help with the taste-testing :)

It's been unseasonably cold here in Tennessee too -- but for us that means highs in the 30s and lows in the low-20s or teens.

I think the lowest temp we've seen on the thermometer has been 12 degrees.

5 below zero?! Yikes. I can't imagine. My hands used to go numb when I shoveled snow as a child in Pennsylvania in temperatures much warmer than that!

Stay warm. Enjoy the cookies :)

Yes, it's been a bit chilly around here. The beach looks good, but it's too far removed for me to even dream about.
Guess I'll get with the Christmas baking. At least it keeps the kitchen warm.

I feel for you, I am so glad it's milder here. Cold, but not nearly like your weather! I lived in Maine for a while and know what continuous snow is like! I LOVE how you decorated your outside tree Kate, that is beautiful. Love all your goodies you've been baking...I'm kind of behind on my baking this year! Merry Christmas to you :)

By now the worst of it has moved beyond the Pacific Northwest, thankfully. It was -9 degrees in Eugene, Oregon about 40 miles south of here. The coldest since 1972. Crazy! I hope you survived and are getting a little reprieve. Have a wonderful Christmas.

That is it. You and the weather outside here in Bluff Country have convinced me. We're becoming first ever for us snobirds after New Years. Yup.

Looking like it's going to be a darn cold winter this year. That flight south may feel like a necessity soon. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and all the best in the new year.
