Search and Rescue

I don't do windows. Obviously! But, looking at this picture has prompted me to find someone who does.

Enough about my lousy housekeeping ~ meet my $5 bargain. Do you recognize what's taking over my sunny window? It's a Clematis. I've got 8 of them growing in my living room and may I just say? It's a jungle in here!

I was picking up supplies, over at Walmart a couple months ago, when I spotted a rack of little green bags. Nearly dead Clematis roots inside. One enterprising little plant had wiggled her way through a hole in the green bag and was sprouting. So, naturally, I had to rescue her. And, then I went back and rescued all of her friends.

I would not have guessed that dead, dry Clematis roots could make such a fab comeback but if you look.... real.... close... you'll see that she's budding!

* Safe planting date, at my elevation, is Memorial Day so it won't be long until I can set them free.

Oh that's so fun! I love it when rescues bounce back and come to life. I also love clematis. My mom and I planted our first one just last fall and I can't wait for it to bloom.

I discovered clematis is hard to kill...I have 2 side-by-side that were accidentally destroyed TWICE but come spring and suddenly there they are. Do know from experience they don't like to be transplanted either. I wonder if they would do good as a houseplant? Leave on indoors this summer then let us all know....;)

I wondered why you were growing that inside! Goodness it's grown an awful lot for such a short time.

I hope you can untangle them by the time planting time comes!

For the windows, may I suggest the "attach to a hose--spray bottle" of Windex or another brand? Doesn't make our windows spotless, but it certainly is a nice tradeoff between getting on a ladder to make them spotless or leaving them to the whims of nature's storms.

Young, early clematis foliage and spectacular mountain scenery --- how can it get better than that? I'll want to see follow ups on how these rescues do in your summer garden. And the cultivars, the names of each... ?

Very cool. I always feel that way when I see a sad little plant in the bargin bin with one green leaf left. I wanted to thank you so much for the tomato seeds. I feel like a real gardener. They are doing outstanding! I will keep you posted on their progress.
