1) Those fabulous, fabulous ruffles.
2) The crazy-ass colors!
3) They're as close to an outdoor Orchid as this mountain gardener has ever found.
4) They are unbelievably waterwise.
5) They weed themselves. {Gotta love that!}
6) They come in every color of the rainbow.
7) They bloom earlier than most of my mountain perennials.
Did I say seven? Actually, it's eight. I forgot to mention how gorgeous they are!

Hear Hear! I don't know what's with the anti-bearded Iris snobbery out there. "They're too frilly and victorian." I suspect these critics come from places that don't need in-ground sprinklers to maintain a lawn.
What a collection you have! I have but one color (came with the house), but I'm hoping to expand this fall. They truly are gorgeous!

and, most important to me, they bloom somewhat, on the acre of oak shaded land where my house sits. Any color at all helps here in the deep dark woods.... I do love them. :)
Had no idea they were so water wise. Good to know as my Siberian and native irises do like their water an awful lot.
