It's seed planting time! Fresh seeds for the ever-growing Daisy garden are percolating in my sunny window.
I've been eagerly anticipating Friday ever since the Monday morning alarm went off. Life is busier than I think it should be. That's had me a tad grumpy all week long.
Forced to cancel Friday Afternoon [hiking] Club. On this bright & sunny, winter day I've been shackled to the computer doing all sorts of must do's vs. want to do's.
Giant Painted Daisies ~ Last year's batch bloomed in neurotic pink. Hoping for bright, happy red this time around.
It's been an odd week. Bad Dog took a road trip to Vegas. The dog gets invited on vacations and I do not. Go figure.
In the dismal little town of Mesquite, Nevada he experienced his first ever In & Out Burger. Has refused to eat kibble ever since.
White Knight Shasta Daisies: 3 feet high with the biggest blooms you've ever seen.
Some things I simply cannot bring myself to spend money on. Expensive gallon pots of Daisies, during gardening season, being one of those things. These gals bloom about the same time, at about the same height (3 feet tall) and if I were to purchase these one gallon bloomers in springtime it would set me back about $200. Or, $3.89 for the seeds.
Here's hoping you all have a marvelous weekend. I have to work. :(
Daisies are such happy, happy plants, aren't they? So many options and colours and sizes. I completely cracked up at Bad Dog going to Vegas. I wish I could draw cartoons, Kate, because that would be an awesome one.
ReplyDeleteWell, apparently Bad Dog had a swinging time in Vegas. I guess he's a bit of a good luck charm!
ReplyDeleteI have Rudbeckia that was planted when we first landscaped our yard 14 years ago that continue to come up every spring. I love that they hang in there year after year and their blooms last a good long time as well.
ReplyDeleteWe'll make up for the hike. Sorry you have to work the weekend too but it is good for the economy for someone to have money to spend!
Shasta daisies are a favorite of mine too.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love GoodDog, but being a bit off his kibble (as long as it's not replaced with burgers) might not be bad... he is just a wee bit chunky. (Like I should talk.)
Hope he busts the bank in Vegas and shares with you and Pete when he gets home.
I have never had Rudbeckia grow for me. I think Rudbeckia must hate me. And daisies, too. Go figure. Things that grow like weeds for others...go figure...
ReplyDeleteAnd I am so jealous of Bad Dog and In and Out.
I will say that when I brought up your page the bright colors were a splash of happy for this last day of January.
Iron: I have certain 'easy to grow' flowers that flatly refuse to bloom for me, too. They flatly refuse to survive the season most years!
ReplyDeleteWunx: I think Bad Dog is way more than a wee bit chunky... but he's a happy little tub of lard.
ReplyDeleteKC: I didn't realize Black Eyed Susans could live that long! Here's hoping I get 14 years out of this batch of seedlings. :)))
ReplyDeleteI love daisies! We have wild ones that come up year after year and I don't have to lift a finger--just enjoy!
ReplyDeleteha ha...I want to be 'Bad Dog' and go on a road trip anywhere!
Jeannie: I'm hoping my daisies will become sort of wild, too. There's lots of open space at the back of this property. With any luck they'll reseed and take over that messy spot in the yard. :)
