Some of these Ice Castles are 3 stories high ~ very fun to walk through.
And, they're not carved. At the top of each one is a water spigot. The water sprays out, freezes and creates the odd shapes and bubble ice effect of the towers.
It was spooky and chilly but a really fun thing to tour.
Jodi -- You should do one! I'm thinking about it... All he does is turn on a sprinkler and let it go nuts.
KC -- Absolutely I'll go back with you! We went into the resort and had fondue after the tour and Get This -- the server set fire to the table next to ours! So, that was good for a laugh.
Like stalagmites, but much cooler. ;-) What great lighting effects, and textures of the ice. We don't get cold enough here (Vancouver BC area) to try it in the back yard.
Kate girl these are AMAZING !!! They remind me of cave structures but what beautiful colour and lighting they have with them : ) I peeked at your plants and I think my amaryllis has a second shoot coming up from the bulb .. it is Apple Blossom .. is that possible ? I have never done this plant before and I am wondering if this hap pend .. I turned on my light garden this morning so fingers crossed I will see little sprouts before long !! : )
Hi, All; Thanks so much. At first I couldn't understand why they only let you tour them after dark (!?!) And, me with my little digital camera. But the lighting gives them a fun, spooky effect.
Garden Lily; Be grateful it never gets that cold. :) You live in a magical place.
Anil; They are as tall as a 2 or 3 story home, but very narrow.
Joy; Sounds like you got a goodie of an Amaryllis bulb! The better bulbs tend to grace you with another set (4 and sometimes 5 more flowers!) after the first stem's flowers die off.
These are amazing! I was wondering if someone had carved them, but I see your answer in a reply here. That's actually even more amazing that they form this way!
Breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteA composition in ice... gorgeous. The lighting is spectacular!

I've always loved ice sculpture. Never seen it in real life. Too warm where I live.
