Wordless Wednesdays ~ By the Light of the Full Snow Moon

Make a wish.

It's a tradition around these parts, to snowshoe toward the highest ridge and soak in the bright night light of a fresh, full moon.

  2. Snowshoe to the highest ridge under a full moon? Sounds wonderful!

    Happy WW!

  3. Absolutely beautiful, Kate. I watched the moon out of a window tonight with the clouds racing by - it felt like I was watching a movie, but you really captured it well. I especially love the last one - the brightness.

    It reminds me of the time I spent in the Sierras when I was in my 20's - two winters worth living next to a lake. On nights like this we would ski to the middle of the lake and it seemed almost as bright as day.

  4. Those pix are beautiful, especially since I know how tough moon shots like that are to make.

  5. Just amazingly magical. I can see that it would be totally worth the effort!

  6. I have snowshoes up in the garage attic, but there are no high ridges around here. Guess I could always travel to UT.

    Think I'll go check out your cooking blog.

  10. That last shot is just amazing. I am intrigued by your header shot. When do the crocus start blooming in your part of the world?

  12. Beautiful moon shots Kate! The moon was so large this month, wasn't it? It takes your breath away sometimes.

    I love your "widget" that you made - 91 days is about the same here :(

  14. Wow, what stunning photos! I've been enjoying the full moon, which I can see through the trees bordering my backyard. Love how the mountains look so blue. (Mountain envy.)

  15. Hi, All;
    Thanks so much for the kind compliments! I have to confess I never actually made it all the way to the top (everyone else did, so that was a little embarrassing!) But it worked out pretty well because another friend who ran out of steam (it's a very steep hike) hung out with me while we waited for the moon to make it's appearance.

  16. How absolutely stunning! You captured the cold beauty of a winter's moon so perfectly.

  18. OMG Kate!!!! These are award wining shots! To think of you out there in the moonlight snowshoeing ... I am so jealous!! But thankful you share this astonishing beauty with us!! I so wanted to go out into the snow too but not up to it yet... my surroundings are not so grand... our soft worn hills are dwarfed by your mountainous splendor! Gorgeous!!! Brava!! ;>) Carol

  19. Thx, Noelle;
    The pics make it look freezing but it was actually a very warm night. We were peeling off layers as we were trudging up hill. :)

  20. Hi, Snowcatcher!
    I was thrilled to see very few clouds Sunday nite. They have been interfering with my full moon photographs, too. :)

  21. Thx, Carol;
    That means a lot coming from you, though I think photoshop was the real star with these pics. Don't know what I'd do without that program! I hope you're feeling better soon. I finally got in gear and went to the doc to see why this illness is lingering for so long. Turns out it's not the flu at all (for me) Have you had yourself checked out? I tend to avoid clinics but I'm glad I paid them a visit...

  22. Brrr! What beautiful pictures, not to mention what courage & endurance to go out in the cold to get the pictures...

    It was a very fun night -- and not nearly as cold as the pictures make it out to be :))

    Hi Kate~~ Your photos have a calming influence sprinkled with a bit of adventurous spirit, if that makes sense. If there has to be winter, it might as well look like this.

  31. Kate,
    The crocus photo on your header image are just beautiful. And these moon scenes are positively magical. What a delightful evening for some snowshoeing. Wonderful! :)

  32. Absolutely gorgeous, Kate! I've been watching this moon the last few days, but nothing compares to seeing it rise over the mountains in these photos.

  33. Amazing photos! The moonrise is my favorite. I hope the snowshoeing was a success. Thanks for the suggestions about Park City Dining - we really enjoyed the Italian food. Enjoy your day! Kelly

  34. Hi, Everyone;
    Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the big blue moon. :D

    Grace - you're so funny! Winter isn't all bad. Although that's hard to argue as I drool over your Camellias.

    Kelly -- So glad you had a fun time in Park City! If you're back here next winter, please let me know. We'd love to drag you out on a snowshoe adventure. Or, hit the slopes. Or, conjure up some type of winter fun... :)

  35. Your photographs look wonderful against the beautiful blue background of your blog. I love your Crocus-pushing-through-the-snow header and the spring bulbs pictured in your sidebar. (It won't be so much longer before there will be lilac scenting your walkway!)

  36. Thx, Kate;
    Been dreaming of lilacs all day as the snow keeps falling. It won't be too long... :)
