Mish Mash Monday

For those of you who don't like ugly, I thought I'd begin with a beauty shot.

Okay! Back to business...

The latest and greatest blossoms in my (mostly brown) garden are... Crocus?  Yep. The last lingering drifts of snow disappeared over the weekend and up popped a tiny crocus, celebrating her release from the filthy remnants of winter.
We raked and hoed and fertilized and mowed.
√ Installed lawn edging.
√ UN-installed a massive number of weeds.

I'm so ahead of the game that the Green Thumb [allegedly professional] Gardeners may never catch up:
Have become so enamored with my little red bird that I bought him a special treat. (I think he's smiling!)
On other matters of national importance, first Yellow Bells [wildflower: Fritallaria pudica] are now gracing the sides of our special hiking trails:
* I think Garden Faerie invented Mish Mash Mondays... but I could be wrong. If not, please help me give credit, where credit is due.

Ooh, I love those little yellow bells. The daffs are pretty too. And I'm glad you all are finally getting spring!

Hi Kate. What a gem of a daffodil. So pretty. I am glad to see that you are getting some flowers now. Sounds like you have been a busy lady.

Just seeing the crocus alone brightens up my day! More snow coming towards the end of the week but who cares--we've got crocus blooming!!

Hi, Jean!
Oh, yes! I am so very thrilled to be playing in the mud again. :D

Hi, Lona;
Your photos today were so amazing. I need to dig up some pics of this house from before I purchased it. Not nearly as much history, but that could be fun. :)

Hi, Noelle;
Yes, my little bird (notice how he's mine, now? :-) seems very happy with his treats.

Aloha, Noel;
Your horsie photos were so compelling this a.m. that I had to go over and play with mine. Hmm... I wonder how she'd handle a flower lei and a parade..?

Thanks, Kiki;
That means a lot. Loved your post, today. I've now dubbed you the queen of green!

Hey, Jeannie...
I heard that dreary news that we might be getting more snow. :( Please say it isn't so.

I agree with Jean I love those little bells, too...The daffs are lovely. You've been very busy! I can hardly keep up...I keep getting distracted by the need to visit the nursery again and see what new plants have arrived! Yikes...I love spring. gail

I'd say about 40 percent of the backyard is free, the rest still under snow. Crocus and Scilla blooming but nothing else. I have some random bulb foliage up through the mulch though, never thought I'd be excited about that. Not dry enough for any hoeing or raking but I can dream. I did cut back some ornamental grasses, does that count?

I was trying to think of 'fritallaria', the other day when you were talking about planting things to repel other things. I think fritallaria is used for that, as well. I remember that if I left the (giant) bulbs in the garage, it sure stunk up the place!

Hi, Gail;
Friends tease me because they think I hate to shop... but they don't know my true weakness. It's not clothes. It's flowers! :)

Kate/High Altitude Gardening said...

Hi, Christine -- Crocus and Scilla are done blooming in half my yard, but just getting started in the other half. I'm sure you're thrilled to see some color even if it's just a few tiny blooms.

Kate/High Altitude Gardening said...

Hi, Jan;
Hmmm... I'll bet you're right. I have quite a few Fritallaria planted around the old homestead. Perhaps that, too, is keeping our 4-legged gobblers at bay.

Those daffodils are great - glad for the mish mash as I do love seeing a smiling finch too.

Kate/High Altitude Gardening said...

Thx, Stevie! So, it's a finch. Good to know. I currently have two names for birds - little birds and big birds. I need to study up! Thanks for the follow, too. Heading over to pay you a visit right now...

The sunniest part of my Tuesday was your mish-mash Monday!

Lovely. Spring just insists, doesn't it?

Thank you kindly, Titanium. I am sooo impressed with your firefighter status! Hmmm... I wonder if my home town, Park City, would let me volunteer?

I like the idea of a mish-mash day.
Had a very busy and very long day in the garden yesterday, lots of digging up, dividing and replanting, lots of border tickling, lots of mulching, lots of potting up of spare plants.

Every year I promise myself that I WILL NOT pot up all the bits of plants, left-over plants, spare plants because I'll only give them away after working hard to grow them on, pot them on, keep them watered and fed.

Every year I fail.

I love the daffs and the Yellow Bells!

Hi, Friko;
Well... I'll bet your failing at such tasks make all of your gardening friends very happy!

Thx, Sweet Bay;
I think those little yellow bells are so darling. Would love to grow some in my gardens. :)

Mish mash is so me, but I keep forgetting to participate. LOL I don't remember who started it, but you may be right about fairegarden. I love your daffodils and those yellow wildflowers, oh and YOUR bird.

Kate/High Altitude Gardening said...

Hi, Sue;
I don't get a lot of pretty birds around here (I think they steer clear of the eagles and hawks.) So, this little guy gets very special treatment from me. :)

I feel so tickled my Mish Mash Monday idea is spreading all over. :)
