For those of you who don't like ugly, I thought I'd begin with a beauty shot.
Okay! Back to business...
The latest and greatest blossoms in my (mostly brown) garden are...
Crocus? Yep. The last lingering drifts of snow disappeared over the weekend and up popped a tiny crocus, celebrating her release from the filthy remnants of winter.
We raked and hoed and fertilized and mowed.
√ Installed lawn edging.
√ UN-installed a massive number of weeds.
I'm so ahead of the game that the Green Thumb [allegedly professional] Gardeners may never catch up:
Have become so enamored with my little red bird that I bought him a special treat. (I think he's smiling!)
On other matters of national importance, first Yellow Bells [wildflower: Fritallaria pudica] are now gracing the sides of our special hiking trails:

Garden Faerie invented Mish Mash Mondays... but I could be wrong. If not, please help me give credit, where credit is due.
Ooh, I love those little yellow bells. The daffs are pretty too. And I'm glad you all are finally getting spring!

I agree with Jean I love those little bells, too...The daffs are lovely. You've been very busy! I can hardly keep up...I keep getting distracted by the need to visit the nursery again and see what new plants have arrived! Yikes...I love spring. gail
ReplyDeleteI'd say about 40 percent of the backyard is free, the rest still under snow. Crocus and Scilla blooming but nothing else. I have some random bulb foliage up through the mulch though, never thought I'd be excited about that. Not dry enough for any hoeing or raking but I can dream. I did cut back some ornamental grasses, does that count?

I was trying to think of 'fritallaria', the other day when you were talking about planting things to repel other things. I think fritallaria is used for that, as well. I remember that if I left the (giant) bulbs in the garage, it sure stunk up the place!

ReplyDeleteHmmm... I'll bet you're right. I have quite a few Fritallaria planted around the old homestead. Perhaps that, too, is keeping our 4-legged gobblers at bay.
Those daffodils are great - glad for the mish mash as I do love seeing a smiling finch too.

ReplyDeleteHad a very busy and very long day in the garden yesterday, lots of digging up, dividing and replanting, lots of border tickling, lots of mulching, lots of potting up of spare plants.
Every year I promise myself that I WILL NOT pot up all the bits of plants, left-over plants, spare plants because I'll only give them away after working hard to grow them on, pot them on, keep them watered and fed.
Every year I fail.
I love the daffs and the Yellow Bells!

Mish mash is so me, but I keep forgetting to participate. LOL I don't remember who started it, but you may be right about fairegarden. I love your daffodils and those yellow wildflowers, oh and YOUR bird.
