Daughter, L, et moi on our first [of many!] adventures.
Oops. (I said to myself.) I did it again. (And, I don't even listen to Britney Spears!) I'm talking about how it's Mother's Day. And, it's still early. So, I wonder if the stores are open for absent-minded Moms like me who reassured sweet daughter I'd visit Nordstrom's and buy a new dress for Mother's Day brunch.
Only there was a plant sale. And, then another plant sale. Oh! As long as I'm down in the valley I should go buy the horses their favorite treats. Oh! And, the dog needs some stuff. Oh! And, well, there you have it.
On the upside, I scored a super healthy Pineapple Sage.
And, a happy Cocozelle mini zucchini...
Plus, the Grand Monarchs are blooming...
Powerscourt Gardens, Ireland ~ another one of our big adventures.
Perhaps she'll be so smitten with my Hyacinths that she won't notice I'm wearing the same dress I wore last year. And, possibly, the year before.
Happy Mother's Day to one and all.
PS: If you bump into my daughter today please put in a good word for me. I mean well. I really do!
I think our children just learn that there are some things that sidetrack us and learn to take it in stride and expect it. LOL! Happy Mothers Day Kate!
ReplyDeleteLet's hope so Lona! I called a friend to see if I could borrow something that my daughter has never seen before. But she's out of town. All is not lost. I have plenty of fashion forward friends on speed dial. :D
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day!
I have the impression that in the US and Australia it is Mothers who do things for their children on Mother's Day.?Both in Germany and in the UK children do special things for their Mums.
ReplyDeleteLike taking them to a plant nursery!

Your daughter should be happy to have a mother who has her priorities straight! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day!
I think your priorities are perfectly straight! Spring is the time for plant buying, not dress buying. She needs an almanac!
ReplyDeleteI need to buy a pineapple sage and grow it sometime. I am a big fan of growing and then later, burning sage.
ReplyDeleteShe'll understand even better after a few years pass. ;-) (From my point of view, you had a Great Day!)
ReplyDeleteHi, Friko;
ReplyDeleteOver here, it's generally up to kids and hubs to coordinate things and Mom gets to relax. One of the cool things about living in a ski resort is how there's all of these amazing restaurants - with no customers, in between ski season and golf season. So, we had a fabulous brunch. It was a good day. :)
Happy Mother's Day - Sweet Bay, Jan and Shady;
ReplyDeleteShe understands. And, I sort of laugh about it because I was a fashion plate at her age, and hugely exasperated with my own Mother.
Plus, my darling daughter is getting into gardening!! Muddy boots are in her future...
Hi, Taoistopher;
ReplyDeleteI burn it too but that's usually by accident. I cook with it. :))
I have my daughters well-trained...er...I mean...well-educated. It's always a trip to the nursery for Mother's Day. They know how to rock my world.
ReplyDeleteKate, you are the one who gave me the idea to plant seeds in the clear plastic cups. It's working out beautifully and I thank you for the idea.
ReplyDeleteYou look better in a white turtle neck than any old dress from Nordstrum's...and your garden, horses and dog are all better off for it.
Just look at your gorgeous L...she's all wrapped up in your love and it shows on her face.
This was happy, happy post.
donna
What an absolutely glorious way to spend the day! After all, isn't Mother's Day about the mother? ;-)
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? Buying plants beats the hell out of clothes shopping any day of the week! :) BTW, what is your horses fave treat?! Inquiring minds need to know.
ReplyDeleteHey, Iron! I like your style. My kid is equally well-trained. :))) She always shows up with something blooming. This year it was a drop dead gorgeous Hydrangea.
ReplyDeleteThx, Donna;
ReplyDeleteThat is my favorite photo of us, although very old. Circa 1995 I think... I took her to Yosemite for her birthday. :)
Very true, Noelle;
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun weekend of flowers and brunch and all things fabulous. I just wish weekends lasted longer than 2 short days... :)
Hi, Monica;
ReplyDeleteI am the worst clothing shopper in the world. I buy pretty much everything online -- and I'll procrastinate on that as long as I can. But, nurseries are another story. I can easily shop 'til I drop at the plant store.
PS: The be all, end all of goodies (and this comes straight from the horse's mouth) are the Nicker Makers. They love 'em! :D
aloha,
ReplyDeletei love your picture with your daughter in front of yosemite, ahh such a wonderful place...by the way the fuzzy red blossum is our famous ohia lehua tree blossum it is a tree prevalent throughout hawaii and many stories and legends are built around the tree and the blossums....the wood has been used for many building purposes also.
A dear photo and lovely post, Kate. We are blessed to have our daughters! I was delighted to have all my chickens/grandchickens near for Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteThx, Noel!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I've probably mentioned this before (I'm a broken record when I visit your blog.) But, I visit Hawaii as often as the budget allows. Such a magical place... the red fuzzy blossoms of that particular tree are just amazing. :))
