Just imagine the goodies I could grow in a greenhouse... |
On the morning of NYE, I met up with a new blogging friend @ the local coffee shop. Because it's pretty much the only show in town. [There. I said it. New Year. New Me! In 2012, I might throw 'nice' right out the window and be all critical over things I normally never bitch about.]
I often wonder if other people standing in line at the Roaster are doing the same darn thing I'm doing...
Patronizing that place simply because they're local. They couldn't make a decent cappuccino if their lives depended on it.
Greenhouse Fever: I'll take this one! |
Deb's also an alpaca rancher. I have a blurry vision of what alpacas are all about. My horse tends to race past them at a dead gallop because she's certain sure they're gonna eat her. So, I'm excited to pay a visit to Sunrise Ranch (without my horse) to see what these cuddly critters are all about.
I'd be A-Okay with a not-so-fancy hoopie house, too. |
This could work. |
Is this inspired by skyrocketing food prices? Driven by mounting food safety concerns?
Oh, hell no. This is all about the zen-y aspect of puttering in a greenhouse, playing with baby seedlings, all year long. I'd be in 7th heaven.
So, here we go. I'm officially declaring that this is the year. That a hoop house, a high tunnel, a greenhouse or something similar gets built in 2012. {Resolution #1.}
And, I'd be totally cool with this one. (Provided they'll take a bouncy-type check...)
Now you're talkin' |

Wouldn't it be great to have something like that last one?? Dream on... even a hoop house would be a stretch for me.
ReplyDeleteThat last picture made me think of the Lincoln Park Conservatory (http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/lincoln-park-conservatory/) in Chicago. Growing up, it was just one of those things that you did...you went to the park on a nice weekend day, and wandered through the conservatory. I always admired its soaring glass roofs.
ReplyDeleteYou NEED to go there. :D
Hi, Lisa;
ReplyDeleteYes, that would be marvy... I might end up with a plastic box the size of a dog house. But I can dream can't I? :))
Happy New Year, O!
ReplyDeleteI've been there! And, it is amazing.
I'm heading your way first thing tomorrow morning! I hope you New Mexicans are offering up some toasty warm weather for the Centennial Trail Ride...
no way....too many windows to wash. Altho.....if I could afford that I could afford a window-washer. I'd settle for someone to come mop my kitchen floor. ;D
ReplyDeleteOh why not take one of each?LOL!
ReplyDeleteOoooh that last one is so pretty! You're making me want a green house now.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good idea in these mountains. My grandpa had a small one that he would use to get a head start on baby veggies. Couldn't even walk into it though, it was like a green house pantry.
You know, since I'm going to learn welding and to blacksmith I might actually be able to build something like that last one if I could pay for materials. Though it would probably be a lot smaller and not quite so ornate.
I'd take even the smallest greenhouse but all my checks are a bit bouncy right now so even the small one is out of bounds. That last conservatory is amazing, can you even imagine? I would live in it year round.
ReplyDeleteoh, I think you should hold out for that last one!
ReplyDeleteBouncy type check made me giggle. Don;t we wish those would work?

ReplyDeleteMy husband got ma a greenhouse last year and I didn't think I would like it. I was right I love it. It extended my growing season by two months this fall and I can't wati to see how soon I can start this spring.
ReplyDeleteSign me up for that last one, too! *swoon* :-D (And happy new year!)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to "borrow" your resolution. Didn't make any of my own, but I'd take any of the above pictured!
ReplyDeleteI have a greenhouse but it's only good in the summer Having one I could use all year round would be Fabulous. I'm planning my seed order and remembered you sent me some tomato seeds . I haven't got them yet tho.
ReplyDeleteKate,
ReplyDeleteI have greenhouse dreams with a postage stamp yard. But I can still dream...Beautiful greenhouses though.
Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteHey!!
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled onto your blog and its great. I just recently moved to Park City, up from Salt Lake and Im already getting the itch to do some gardening.
Unfortunately a hoop house is out for the neighborhood we live in, (strict building rule) but I am thinking of lots and lots of indoor herbs as well as pots outside when the weather turns.
So if you ever need some extra hands with this dream garden/greenhouse just let me know! Im going to subscribe to this page as your info is great!
Michelle
Hey there!
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled onto your blog and its great! I recently moved to Park City and its great to see that others are making gardening work up here.
Unfortunately I live in a housing development that wont allow a hoop house but I have high hopes for lots and lots of potted herbs and such. I would really love to get involved with a co-op garden up here like they have down in Salt Lake.
Thanks for sharing your tricks and tips and I will be sure to check back often!
Hi, Michelle!
ReplyDeleteApologies for the late response. I've been out of town. WELCOME to Park City! Once the weather warms up, let's chat. I grow quite a few veggies in containers on my deck. I'd be happy to send you a list of goodies for a mtn gardens. :))
