Late Bloomer

YOU, SLACKER!

Oh, sure... Now you decide to bloom.
Now that Christmas is over and gifts have been given.
After you were shoved to the side, another plant purchased, and gifted instead. Was this a secret plot to remain amongst your friends in my sunny window?

Yeah, yeah. You're pretty. But, no A for effort from me.
Howsabout an A+ for dragging your feet?

I planted you the same day as the rest of the gang ~ with all my Amaryllis bulbs ~ who are out the door and off to happy homes. 14 long weeks ago!

* Okay! I'll admit it... I talk to my plants and sometimes I give 'em hell. Don't you?

I only yell at buckthorn. Everything else I coax. I don't buy amaryllis bulbs until after Xmas when they're way on sale. They usually bloom in late March. But I have enough colorful things to distract me around Xmas... I prefer having my amaryllis bloom late in winter, when I'm totally sick of winter and nothing else is blooming. Then I'm thrilled to see some color, something in bloom. It's all a matter of perspective.

I have often told a plant "Grow or out you go" or "what is the matter with you" LOL.

Of course I talk to my plants too! Sometimes I say things that aren't real polite, but they seem to forgive...;-) Beautiful amaryllis, by the way.

Hi, Monica!
I generally wait until after the holidays for Amaryllis bulbs, too. But, I found a screaming deal in October so decided to pounce.

Hi, Lona;
I often put plants on a timetable. A little pressure never killed anybody. Or, well... I guess that doesn't work because if they don't comply I compost 'em! - Evil Kate

Thanks, Jodi. Good to know I'm not the only one who's off her rocker. (Kidding!)

I should have started threatening this particular flower a month ago.

By the time my 'after xmas clearance' amaryllis blooms, everything outside will be in peak bloom, too. But, watching the progress is a good winter activity!

Kate~~ My sister gave me a bunch of Amaryllis bulbs last Christmas. I think there were 12 in all. I potted up all of them on the same day, yet they grew and bloomed at different rates. I guess they've got little minds of their own. Yours is a beut--worth waiting for but it sounds like you're as impatient as I am. Well maybe not THAT impatient. LOL

Hi Kate,

Maybe it felt that you would want some extra beauty around the house once all the Christmas decorations were put away?

Kate said...

Hi, Jan;
I like to gift them right before the first flower opens. But it's not as easy as I first thought. Nothing matches their splendor, though, especially on a cold, winter day. :)

Hi, Grace;
We're probably in competition for least patient gardener... :) I'm a big believer in instant gratification but my little flowers rarely comply.

Hi, AZ, you're in incognito! When I saw 'Noelle" I thought... who dat? Lovely name, by the way, and yes, you're onto something. I'm kind of happy to be holding onto one of the dozen bulbs I grew for good friends.

Kate,
It is pretty even if it was late.
I think one of my Am. might bloom for vday. Or it's dead as a doornail.
You need a grow dammit sign.

LOL, this one wanted to stay with you:) Oh yes, I do talk to my plants, but I also talk to the bees and butterflies in the garden. As long as it's a one-sided conversation, I'm not too worried:)

Beautiful amaryllis, and a gorgeous header photo!

Rosey - That's a great get rich quick scheme. Once production is complete, please put me down for a dozen 'Grow, Dammit' signs. Lord knows my gardens could use 'em :D

LOL Rose... I'm imagining this scene where your neighbors staring at you while you are carrying on a conversation with a busy bee. :D

Still no amaryllis at IronHouse...why am I not seeing any on sale?

joey said...

Yes indeed, Kate! Like Monica, I hate buckthorn (they are way too happy here in Michigan as is ivy and a handful of other scorned pests)! But you must admit, your stunning amaryllis has a face worth waiting for!

Kate said...

Joy, you crack me up! [always] I hope you feel better soon. As far as the 15 month too late resolution? I'll never tell!

Kate said...

Hi, Iron;
It's the same around here... Can't find an on-sale bulb to save my soul.

I was on the prowl for some pink ones. They bring great joy when I'm so over winter it isn't even funny.

Hi, Joey!
Isn't life marvelous now that you've ditched your pc for a mac? :)) I've never heard of buckthorn -- sounds like that might be a good thing. :D

Oh yes, we talk to the plants, inside and out. And the cats. Alot. Your amarylis must have wanted to stay with you, tongue lashing or not. :-)
