Garden Bloggers Bloom Day ~ July, 2010

In this spot: Catmint (tall blue,) Jupiter's Beard (tall pink,) Geum (orange,) Johnson's Blue Geraniums (short blue,) Dianthus (fuschia) + 2 cool birdhouses I painted myself (though my snooty birds refuse to live in them.) Missing from the party is (white) Baby's Breath. She adds a lovely, soft texture to these big blossoms.

It's a jungle out here! My short mountain growing season inspires every perennial to behave differently. Bloom times are all squished together ~ in July this joint is a riot of color.

Malva, Miniature Hollyhocks

It's hard to decide what to show on this Garden Blogger's Bloom Day ~ so many fun flowers to choose from. Here are a few that always make me smile:

Rose Campion and perennial Geraniums.

Sweet Peas climbing the front porch.

Blazing orange beauty: the Maltese Cross.

Cute Columbines are so plentiful they're flowering in the cracks of my sidewalk.

Lounging beneath this Six Hills Giant Catmint (blue) and Valerian (red) is one lazy, little kitty. I wonder if I should tell him that I'm planning to turn on the sprinkler?

Three cheers for Carol of May Dreams Gardens, creator of Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. Visit her site to enjoy more pretty gardens!

Kate girl your garden is looking gorgeous ! Hey .. don't mull over those snooty birds not residing in your beautifully painted bird houses .. it saves them (said houses) from getting "messy" eeuuuww ! see the advantage ? haha
My favorite is your Zebrina Malva .. one very pretty plant for sure !

Ah, but what a gorgeous jungle it is!!! I totally (heart) your geum. And that last combination with the Jupiter's Beard. Mr. Kitty has good taste in decor!

Your top photo should be added to CheepRooms - Birdhouse Thursday. http://cheeprooms.blogspot.com

Lovely gardens.

Well, I sort of like all the blooms squashed together by the altitude! How lush and beautiful. Your gardens fairly rock with color.

This reminds me of when I lived in Alaska and the long days made everything go berserk. Maybe the growing season was only three short months but boy,did the plants try to make up for lost time!

Thanks for sharing your beauty with us.

Kate, your garden is a riot of color in July--gorgeous! I love the reds and purples together. Your birdhouses are so cute. Maybe the birds know that little kitty is lurking underneath:)

Love that first picture with the birdhouses. I also love the picture of the columbines with the cool blue background. Very pretty!

Hi Kate,
You sure do have lots of blooms looking awesome, and sharing the same bloom time. The columbines here have been finished awhile.

Your Johnson's blue geraniums sure are loaded with blooms.

I'm sorry about those snooty birds, too. Maybe they will take up residence in your lovely houses next year. Oh, when did you put them up? I think the male scouts out places for nests in early spring. I'm not sure which birds do that, though, as I'm not an expert. Oh, it may be wrens.

Thanks for your nice comment on my GGBD post.

Beautiful garden I like your flaming frolicking amongst the blooms. We are in Park City for the weekend and enjoying your nice cool weather. Thanks for the peak at your garden.

Kate, the color in your garden is phenomenal and I'm glad you identified all the flowers in the first photo. Dang birds, what's wrong with them?

So that's what Malva flowers look like. I never get to see mine because someone/something chews the plant down to the ground before it blooms.

Your Columbine flowers are drop dead gorgeous. The one bloom in the lower left corner is one I added to my garden earlier this year. It's 'Songbird Cardinal'...I think.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Nice of you since I hadn't posted in so long.

Thanks for visiting me, Eileen, I just stopped over to your place and loved the walk to the lake. :)

Good thought, Joy! I'd be all upset if the birdies didn't take painstaking care of my artwork! :))

Thx, Gail!
Glad you enjoyed the flowers. :)

Hi, Melanie;
I got a jumpstart on those sweet peas. Kate/Smudges was talking about them last winter and I decided to follow her lead and start mine indoors.

Thank you, dear Amy, that is the sweetest way anyone has reacted to my cluttered garden bed. I do that because they're so scrunched together weeds don't stand a chance... :)

Hi, Noel!
Thanks for stopping by. Big news: My Plumeria is BLOOMING! :))) And, they said it couldn't be done...

Thx, Black Swamp Girl, I just popped over to your joint and now I need an Agave... Happy Bloom Day. :))

Hi, Healing Magic Hands;
Thanks for visiting me. I was having trouble accessing your site. So, I apologize for not returning the favor.

Oh, Rose -- You've got the beat! I never considered that! They would have to be dumb birds indeed to bunk next to the catmint!!! :D

Thx, 3 Dogs; It was lovely meeting you and I look forward to reading your posts. :)

Hi, Sue;
Your gardens are so lovely. If I ever find myself near your town I may have to skulk around a bit. :) No worries. I'm completely harmless. Unless, of course, I have a garden fork handy and then you may be missing some perennials come sunrise. :D

Thx, Joey, we are sweltering here, today, so I am longing for a getaway on any lake. Howsabout yours? :))

Wesley - You cannot seriously call this cool weather can you? :) We'z not used to 90's.

Donna - You're on the bloggy thingamajig. You can run but you can't hide my dear.... :)

Kate, your flowers are stunning! That first picture should be a postcard!

Hi Kate, A riot of color sounds very apropos. And just the way we like it!

I'm sorry I've been away from your blog for so long.

I can not get valerian to grow. I thought that it was my winter was too cold, but maybe I just need to keep trying.

I love all your colors. And columbine blooming at this time of year would be strange around here. I love your variety of it.

It is really something how all that is blooming at the same time. Makes for a real beautiful garden! Here everything is spread out so although there is a long bloom season, there is also always a few things that are getting old and ratty.

oh my gosh. How gorgeous! I love the colorful corner. THose columbines are amazing and I love the colors. The sweet peas are so pretty.

I like the your new deadheading reminder too! :)

Gorgeous blooms! I love your Geraniums and all the wonderful colors of your flowers. My mom gave me Red Geraniums in the Spring, I planted it in the ground but didn't know what color it was until it bloomed recently. I love it so much, I ended up buying hot pink! Have a great weekend :)

I love Jupiter's beard, one of my favorites--your combining it was catmint is genius. I still can't believe how late you have columbine going on.

LOL, I was looking to see if I'd left a comment, because I sometimes get sidetracked and don't get back to leave them. I do remember seeing what you wrote, because I usually subscribe to follow-up comments.

Come on over this spring, and we can find some perennials to share. Most of my friends and neighbors already have what they want from it.
