Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day ~ August, 2011

Say it isn't so! 8/15 already?? I'm worn out with the heat but not weary with this season.

I wish summer could last forever. I wish these flowers could, too.

A cavalcade of color fills the big rock garden ~ moppy head Bee Balm and Helianthus...

Hollyhocks and Purple Rain...

Phlox, phlox and more phlox. Can't resist. Must add a new one every year.

Wild 4 o'clocks and Strawflowers adorn a particularly awful section of the street garden. Both seem to enjoy massive amounts of neglect.

Clematis climbing vines add bright color to this ratty porch. (Don't get any big ideas about relaxing in that chair. Hummingbirds will surely dive-bomb you.)

I get so many compliments on this flowering tree...

Though, I'll bet you garden gurus can tell it's not a flowering tree at all.

Clematis Jackmanii flowering vines do a fine job of fooling people, climbing 20 feet into the branches of this young crabapple.

I was just about to say "I call the relaxing in that chair" ... and then I read ... Hummingbirds will surely dive-bomb you :)
What a lovely garden you have. That chair is really inviting one to sit and marvel at the garden. Lovely!

I love your four o'clocks! Mine seem to grow only where they want and are not susceptible to persuasion.

Look at you with all of that pretty color in your mountaintop garden! I have to confess, I love the monarda the best when it's at the stage of the wine-red one in your photo... the emerging flowers look like gorgeous jester's hats, and they just tickle me for some reason. :)

Happy GBBD!

You always have such a lovely garden, and your photos always make me so jealous! My clematis flowered only for a few days, early, and nothing else did much of anything this year. My sunflowers are coming on, though; maybe another week. Grasshoppers have chewed the leaves to smithereens, though. Your sunflower and the bee are so warm and wonderful!

I wish summer would last for ever too Kate. Or maybe just start again with spring. This one was not anything but strange.
Your beds look so colorful now.I love the mix of flowers you have with your monarda. So pretty.
Those hummingbirds can really make you duck at times. LOL!

Kate - your garden is lovely. I especially like the clematis growing into the crab apple tree. I want to do something similar...

I know just how you feel Kate about the summer ending soon. Didn't we just start summer a month ago? I must say with the "forever" long winter and spring we experienced, it sure has been a welcome mild summer. I'm going to savor every minute of the last few days of summer!

Kate,

I love the vibrant color combination of the bee balm and the Helianthus. Very summery.

Gotta love that clematis going up into the crab apple. I have all but decided that my mystery clematis is Jackmanii, and it is also going bonkers.

Hummingbirds.....we get dive bombed regularly. One almost brushed the top of my head yesterday.

I think I'd take my chances in the chair. Hummingbirds would just add more atmosphere to the colorful garden scene.

I can see why you don't want the season to end. What a terrific selection of exuberant plants! Be sure to bookmark this post so you can remind yourself in January what the garden will look like again.

I'd gladly sit in that chair and let hummingbirds dive-bomb me:) I can see why people compliment you on your unusual "tree"--I'd probably be fooled, too. I agree with you, Kate; I hate to see summer end, especially with all the gorgeous blooms you have. But I'm ready for an end to this heat!

What a lovely garden you have. I'm thinking of replacing my impatiens with four-o-clocks. But I noticed in the pictures that they don't flower as much, do they?

Awesome flowers!

Thanks everyone and Happy Bloom Day!

Ayana;
These are different 4 o'clocks - a wild perennial native, with a long tap root so they are very waterwise. :)

Absolutely beautiful! Love looking at photos of other's flourishing gardens. My have definitely suffered this year with the drought we are having in South Texas! Thanks for posting.
